This leads to people misidentifying their life purpose as their work — their job, career or profession, while others may misidentify some primary role in life like being a good parent, a good provider, or a dutiful son or daughter as their purpose. But let's think about the term, life purpose, for a moment. Doesn't it make sense that your life purpose should be able to encompass ALL of your life -- not just some significant portions of it? The problem isn't that it's so hard to identify your purpose- the problem is that most people just mis-identiify their purpose... and then don't look any further, and stay stuck and lost. You see, I’d wanted to be a vet since the age of 7 and stayed on that path thinking it was my life purpose, but then found after 13 years in practice, that I couldn’t stand going into the office another day. I’d burned out big time in both my professional and personal life. The downward spiral continued as I first abused alcohol, then drugs, until finally I seriously contemplated taking my own life before Divine Intervention stepped in -- a good friend who happened by my home and found me in a deep state of emotional distress and offered to help me get help. That help eventually led me to finding my first life coach. After finally getting my life working again, I reflected back on what were the key elements that had allowed for such a powerful life transformation. There were three: • Discovering the power of coaching, • Re-connecting with my spiritual center, and • Becoming clear about my true life purpose. Upon deciding to combine these three I became one of the first life purpose coaches in the world.
